By size
Maharashtra, with 7,65,395 companies and LLPs, 20.4% of the register. The next is Delhi at 13.6%.
By recent intake
Maharashtra again, with 2,37,792 of the 11,98,249 registered in the complete years 2021 to 2025. The state gaining fastest on the rest is Uttar Pradesh.
The last column is the one to read. A state that takes a larger share of recent registrations than it holds of the register as a whole is growing against the rest; Uttar Pradesh is 2.3 points ahead of its own weight, and 18 states in all are on that side of the line. Delhi is 4.5 points behind it, the furthest of any state, having held 13.6% of the register and taken 9.1% of what was registered 2021 to 2025.
11,98,249 registrations in those years is 31.9% of everything on the register, so roughly a third of it was filed since 2021. A further 2,26,705 were registered in 2026 up to 6 August 2026, which is a part year and is left out of the five above and out of the chart below.
By what they do
Maharashtra holds the most of every one of the Ministry's twenty classifications, which is what a fifth of the register does to a ranking. The last column is the one that says something.
What they registered as
An LLP is a partnership whose partners have limited liability and no shares; a private limited company issues shares, which is what an outside investor buys. A public company may offer its shares to the public; a private one may not.
24,492 entities are filed as a subsidiary of a company incorporated outside India.

How to read these
Every page carries the share of its entities still active and the share of its pre-2015 intake struck off. Only the second compares between places. The first rises wherever incorporations are recent, because a company registered this year has had no opportunity to fail, and a third of this register was filed since 2021.
Across the whole register, 49.6% of everything registered before 2015 now carries the status Strike Off, and that is the line a state page is read against. A district is read against the districts, which sit at 47.6%. Comparing a district with the national figure instead would flatter it by more than a point.
A state holds more than its districts add up to. An entity that wrote something other than a district in the district field still tells us its state, so each state page says how much of itself its district pages account for.
Counted from the Ministry's own company register, as on 6 August 2026. One company with conflicting entries was counted once using MCA master data checked on 6 October 2026. This decision uses the current record and does not establish which entry was correct on 6 August 2026. These counts cover more of the register than the free company lookup searches. The lookup is the place to check one named company; this is the place to see what a state or a district holds. The full method is in the survival analysis.
